Star Battle
Hard (10×10, 1★)About hard Star Battle (10×10, 1★)
Hard Star Battle uses a 10×10 grid with 10 irregular regions and 1 star per row, column, and region. A hundred cells with only 10 stars makes the grid feel sparse, and region shapes get more complex. Some regions snake across the grid, giving many possible star positions that must be narrowed through multiple constraint layers.
Multi-region elimination chains become necessary at this level. Region confinement and reverse confinement work together: if region A can only place its star in row 3, and row 3's only valid cells outside region A belong to region B, then region B's star is forced into row 3 as well. Following these chains across the grid is what distinguishes hard from medium.
Take your time with the initial scan. Identify the most constrained regions and rows first, resolve what you can, and let the cascading eliminations do the work. These puzzles are still 1-star, so the jump to expert (2★) will feel like a different puzzle entirely.
