How to Play Star Battle

Rules

  • Place exactly 1 star in each row, column, and region.
  • Stars cannot touch each other — not even diagonally.
  • The thick borders show the region boundaries.
  • Each region is tinted with a subtle color for visibility.

Strategies

  • Look for small regions — fewer cells means fewer possible star placements.
  • Mark cells with × where stars definitely cannot go.
  • Use the adjacency rule to eliminate cells around placed stars.
  • Count remaining candidates per row, column, or region.

Controls

  • Click a cell to place/remove a star (or mark in mark mode).
  • Right-click to quickly toggle a mark.
  • Use arrow keys to navigate.
  • Press S for star, X for mark, M to toggle mark mode.
  • Press H for a hint.

About easy Star Battle (6×6, 1★)

Easy Star Battle uses a 6×6 grid divided into 6 irregular regions. Each row, column, and region needs exactly one star. With only 6 stars on a 36-cell grid, most cells will be empty. The adjacency rule blocks up to 8 neighbors per star placement, which eliminates candidates quickly.

Look for small regions first. A region with just 2 or 3 cells has very few valid star positions. Place the obvious ones, then let the adjacency cascade handle the rest. Mark blocked cells with × to keep track of what is eliminated. Use the row and column star counters to spot lines that are close to satisfied.

Easy puzzles are ideal for learning the no-touch rule and getting comfortable with the region-based reasoning that drives harder levels. Once you are solving these consistently in under 2 minutes, move to medium (8×8).
