How to Play Slitherlink

Rules

  • Draw a single closed loop along grid edges.
  • Each numbered cell tells you how many of its 4 edges are part of the loop.
  • The loop has no branches and no dead ends — every point on the loop connects exactly 2 edges.
  • Blank cells give no information.

Controls

  • Click/tap an edge to cycle: empty → line → × → empty
  • Right-click to mark × (excluded) directly
  • U or Ctrl+Z Undo
  • Ctrl+Y Redo
  • H Hint

Clue Colours

  • Default — no edges set yet
  • Orange — some edges set, not enough
  • Green — exactly satisfied
  • Red — too many edges

About expert slitherlink

Expert slitherlink is a 12×12 grid. Clue density stays around 45% but the grid area roughly doubles compared to hard, so the number of interacting constraints grows fast.

Chain reasoning across regions is the primary technique. You might determine an edge near the top-left corner, which constrains a vertex, which forces an exclusion, which triggers an edge-count resolution three cells away. Tracing these chains requires patience and systematic vertex checking.

Work region by region. Pick a cluster of cells with clues, exhaust all local deductions, then look for how those results propagate outward. When expert feels manageable, try Einstein.
