MediumAbout Medium Cryptogram Puzzles
Medium cryptograms feature well-known quotes from 8 to 15 words. You start with 1 or 2 pre-revealed letters—enough to anchor your reasoning but not enough to shortcut the puzzle. The quotes come from a broader range of authors and topics.
This is the tier where the heavyweights show up: Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Mark Twain, Henry David Thoreau, Benjamin Franklin, Gandhi, and a fair number of Bible and Shakespeare passages. The phrasing tends to be direct, which keeps the vocabulary recognizable even when the cipher does not give you much to start with.
At this level, frequency analysis becomes a genuine asset. The texts are long enough that letter distributions start matching expected English patterns. The built-in frequency comparison panel shows cipher text frequencies alongside standard English frequencies side by side.
Most medium puzzles take 2 to 4 minutes. The timed trial limit is 4 minutes, which keeps the pressure moderate. This is where most solvers find their rhythm.
