Medium brain teasers add real reasoning on top of the misdirection. You might need to track ages across time, compute rates, or follow a chain of if-then conditions. The trick is still there, but now it's buried under a legitimate problem.

The best approach: write down what you know and what you're solving for. These problems are designed so that holding everything in your head causes you to drop a condition or mix up a number. Paper defeats most of them instantly.
